Why Leveling Matters

Arms of God guide screenshot — XP farming in action

Every level in Arms of God gives you: +8% base HP, +5% base damage, and one blessing upgrade point. The difference between level 10 and level 20 is roughly double survivability and 50% more damage. If you are hitting a wall at a boss, the answer is almost always: level up more.

This guide covers the fastest leveling methods, zone-by-zone XP efficiency, and how to power-level a new character from level 1 to Act-ready in under 30 minutes.

XP Mechanics: What the Game Does Not Tell You

  • XP scales with enemy tier: A standard enemy gives 100% XP. An elite gives 250%. A mini-boss gives 500%. Bosses give 1000%.
  • Overkill bonus: Killing an enemy with damage exceeding its remaining HP by 100%+ grants a 20% XP bonus. This is the single biggest optimization — always finish enemies with your hardest-hitting ability.
  • No XP penalty for co-op: Playing with others does not split XP. Each player gets full XP from every kill.
  • Rest Shrine XP boost: Upgrading a blessing at a Rest Shrine gives a hidden +15% XP gain buff for the next 5 rooms. Stack this with elite-heavy zones.
  • Cathedral XP upgrade: The Cathedral's XP Gain upgrade (unlocked Act 2) gives +10% per level, up to level 5 (+50%). Max this second, after Movement Speed.

Best XP Farming Zones by Act

Act 1: The Barracks (Rooms 6-10) — Best for Levels 1-8

XP per minute: ~85 XP/min at level 5

The Barracks has the highest elite density of any Act 1 zone. Room 7 (the ambush room) alone is worth roughly 3 rooms of XP because of the 3-wave spawn. Reset the zone by quitting to menu after Room 10.

Optimal loop: Rooms 6→7→8→9→10 → quit to menu → repeat. Skip the hidden rooms on repeat runs — they are not worth the time.

Act 2: The Flooded Catacombs (Rooms 8-14) — Best for Levels 8-15

XP per minute: ~140 XP/min at level 10

The Corrupted Bishop (Room 9) is the best repeatable XP source in the mid-game. At 500% XP value and respawning on zone reset, farming the Bishop is faster than progressing naturally.

Optimal loop: Room 8 (clear) → Room 9 (Bishop fight + kill) → Room 10 (clear) → quit to menu → repeat. With a fire build, each Bishop kill takes roughly 2 minutes. At 500% XP per kill, that is 250 XP every 2 minutes = 125 XP/min from the Bishop alone, plus the room clears.

Act 3: The Armory (Rooms 7-12) — Best for Levels 15-20

XP per minute: ~220 XP/min at level 16

The Armory gauntlet is the best XP farm in the game before Act 4. 6 consecutive combat rooms with high elite density, and the optional Ascended Knight mini-boss. With the Rest Shrine XP boost active (from Room 5), each run through the gauntlet nets roughly 1,300-1,500 XP.

Optimal loop: Start from Room 5 Rest Shrine (get XP boost) → Rooms 6-12 clear (including Ascended Knight) → quit to menu → repeat. Each full loop takes about 7 minutes at an efficient pace.

Act 4: Cathedral Entrance (Rooms 1-5) — Best for Levels 18-20

XP per minute: ~300 XP/min at level 18

Act 4 enemies give the highest base XP in the game. Rooms 1-5 are relatively manageable (before the difficulty spike at Room 6) and packed with elites. Only farm here if you can clear Act 4 rooms consistently — dying costs you the entire run's unbanked XP.

Power Leveling a New Character (1-15 in 30 Minutes)

If you are starting a fresh character and want to catch up fast:

1. Levels 1-5 (10 min): Run Act 1 Rooms 1-10 normally. Do not skip rooms — the early levels come fast and the gear pickups matter. Fight Varek for the guaranteed Tier 2 drop.

2. Levels 5-10 (10 min): Unlock Cathedral in Act 2 Room 7. Buy XP Gain level 2. Then farm Barracks (Act 1 Rooms 6-10) with the XP boost active. 3 loops should get you to level 10.

3. Levels 10-15 (10 min): Switch to farming the Corrupted Bishop (Act 2 Room 9). Each kill + clear takes ~2 minutes with a fire build, gives roughly 350 XP. 5 kills = 1,750 XP = level 14-15 range.

4. Level 15+: Normal progression through Act 3. The Armory farming will carry you to level 20 naturally.

Cathedral Upgrade Priority for Maximum XP

| Priority | Upgrade | Target Level | Reason |

|----------|---------|-------------|--------|

| 1 | Movement Speed | Max (5) | Faster room clears = more XP/min |

| 2 | XP Gain | Max (5) | +50% total XP at max level |

| 3 | HP | 4 | Survive farming elites |

| 4 | Damage | 4 | Faster kills = faster clears |

| 5 | Blessing Slots | 4 (unlock all 5) | More blessings = faster clears |

| 6 | Healing Effectiveness | 2 | Less downtime between rooms |

XP Blessing Synergies

Three blessings significantly accelerate leveling:

  • Scholar's Zeal: +25% XP from elite and boss kills. Stacks additively with Cathedral XP Gain for +75% total. This is the single best leveling blessing in the game.

  • Momentum: Killing an enemy within 5 seconds of the previous kill grants a stacking +5% XP buff (max 5 stacks, +25%). In high-density zones like the Armory, this has near 100% uptime.
  • Overkill: Increases overkill XP bonus from +20% to +40%. Pairs best with high-damage single-hit weapons like Seraph's Judgment or Devastator.

If you are specifically farming XP, aim for Scholar's Zeal + Momentum. Do not slot Overkill unless your build consistently overkills by 100%+.

XP Farming Do Not List

  • Do not farm in co-op for XP. No XP split, but enemies gain +60% HP in co-op, making kills slower.
  • Do not farm bosses you cannot kill in under 3 minutes. If the kill time is longer, the XP/min is worse than clearing standard rooms.
  • Do not ignore the Rest Shrine XP boost. The +15% for 5 rooms is free and resets every shrine visit.
  • Do not enter Act 4 below level 18. The HP difference between level 15 and level 18 is roughly 25% — that is the difference between surviving 2 hits and surviving 3.
