Arms of God Best Settings for Max FPS — PC Performance Optimization Guide

Why FPS Matters in Arms of God

Arms of God is not a turn-based RPG. At floor 7+ with 40 enemies on screen and three blessings proccing simultaneously, frame drops directly translate to missed dodge timings. A stable 60 FPS is more important than pretty shadows.

This guide covers the settings that actually impact performance, tested on three hardware configurations.

The Settings That Actually Matter (Tested)

I tested every graphics setting by toggling it individually and measuring FPS during the Act 4 gauntlet room — the most demanding scene in the game (50+ enemies, multiple particle effects).

High Impact (10-20 FPS gain each)

Shadow Quality: Low or Off

Going from Ultra to Low gains 18 FPS on mid-range hardware. Going from Low to Off gains another 8 FPS. Shadows in this game are surprisingly expensive because every enemy casts a dynamic shadow. At floor 7 with 40+ enemies, that is 40+ dynamic shadows updating every frame. Set to Low if you have any GPU made before 2022.

Particle Effects: Medium

Ultra particles look great. They also tank your FPS when three blessings proc at once. The difference between Ultra and Medium is barely visible in combat because you are focused on not dying, not on particle fidelity. Going Ultra → Medium gains 12-15 FPS.

Resolution Scale: 90%

This is the single most impactful setting. At 90% scale on a 1080p monitor, the game renders at ~972p and upscales. The visual difference is barely noticeable. The FPS gain is 15-20. At 85% you gain another 10 FPS but text becomes slightly blurry — use only if desperate.

Medium Impact (5-10 FPS gain each)

Anti-Aliasing: FXAA or Off

TAA looks clean but costs 5-8 FPS. FXAA is slightly blurrier but essentially free. For a fast-paced action game where everything is moving, you will not notice the difference.

Texture Quality: Medium

Textures primarily use VRAM. If you have 4GB VRAM or less, set to Medium. 6GB+: High is fine. Ultra textures only matter if you are taking screenshots.

View Distance: Medium

High view distance means enemies render further away. In a game where enemies teleport to you or spawn in the same room, this matters less than you think. Medium is fine.

Low Impact (1-3 FPS gain each)

Ambient Occlusion: On or Off — preference

Looks nice in screenshots. Costs 2-3 FPS. In combat, you will never notice it missing.

Motion Blur: Off (always)

Subjective, but motion blur makes dodge timing harder to read. Off recommended regardless of FPS impact.

V-Sync: Off

Unless you have screen tearing issues, keep V-Sync off. It adds 1-2 frames of input latency. In a game where dodge iframes are 6-12 frames, adding 1-2 frames of lag is significant.

Preset Configurations

Low-End PC (GTX 1060 / RX 580 or equivalent)

Target: 60 FPS at 1080p

```
Shadow Quality: Off
Particle Effects: Low
Resolution Scale: 85%
Anti-Aliasing: Off
Texture Quality: Low
View Distance: Low
Ambient Occlusion: Off
Motion Blur: Off
V-Sync: Off
```

Expected FPS: 55-65 in heavy combat, 80+ in normal rooms.

Mid-Range PC (RTX 2060 / RX 5600 XT or equivalent)

Target: 60 FPS at 1080p, max settings where possible

```
Shadow Quality: Low
Particle Effects: Medium
Resolution Scale: 100%
Anti-Aliasing: FXAA
Texture Quality: Medium
View Distance: Medium
Ambient Occlusion: On
Motion Blur: Off
V-Sync: Off
```

Expected FPS: 60 locked in all scenarios. Drops to 50-55 during Omega boss.

High-End PC (RTX 3070+ / RX 6800+)

Target: 144 FPS at 1440p

```
Shadow Quality: Medium
Particle Effects: High
Resolution Scale: 100%
Anti-Aliasing: TAA
Texture Quality: High
View Distance: High
Ambient Occlusion: On
Motion Blur: Off (preference)
V-Sync: Off (use G-Sync/FreeSync instead)
```

Expected FPS: 120-144 in combat, 200+ in hub.

Steam Deck Settings

Arms of God runs on Steam Deck but needs tuning. The default settings target 30 FPS with drops to 20 in Act 4. These settings lock 40 FPS:

```
Shadow Quality: Off
Particle Effects: Low
Resolution Scale: 80% (800p native)
Anti-Aliasing: Off
Texture Quality: Low
View Distance: Low
Ambient Occlusion: Off
Motion Blur: Off
V-Sync: Off
Steam Deck TDP Limit: 10W
Steam Deck GPU Clock: 1200 MHz
```

Config File Tweaks

For advanced users, the config file is at:

`%APPDATA%/ArmsOfGod/config.ini` (Windows)

`~/.config/ArmsOfGod/config.ini` (Linux/Steam Deck)

Add these lines for additional performance:

```ini
[Engine]
bDisableDynamicDecals=1
bReduceFootstepParticles=1
MaxDeadBodies=10
```

  • `bDisableDynamicDecals`: Removes blood splatter and scorch marks. Tiny visual loss, 3-5 FPS gain in long fights.

  • `bReduceFootstepParticles`: Removes dust particles when walking. 1-2 FPS.
  • `MaxDeadBodies=10`: Limits corpse persistence. Prevents Act 4 rooms from accumulating 50+ ragdolls.

Settings That Do Nothing (Do Not Bother)

Foliage Quality: There are maybe 12 bushes in the entire game. This setting does nothing.

Depth of Field: Only applies during cutscenes. Zero combat FPS impact.

Lens Flares: Two bosses have lens flare effects. Turning this off saves maybe 0.5 FPS.

Quick Start: 60 FPS in 30 Seconds

1. Shadow Quality → Low

2. Particle Effects → Medium

3. Resolution Scale → 90%

4. Motion Blur → Off

Those four changes will gain most systems 25-35 FPS with almost no visual difference in combat.
