The World of Arms of God

Arms of God takes place in a fallen world called Aethelgard — a land where divine power once flowed freely, channeled through the Cathedral at the world's center. Then came the Shattering: an unknown cataclysm that split the Cathedral's power into fragments, corrupted its guardians into monsters, and unleashed divine weapons across the land.

The Core Conflict

You play as a Seeker — one of the few humans capable of wielding divine weapons. The Cathedral's High Priest (now the Corrupted Priest boss) opened a gate to the divine realm, hoping to restore Aethelgard. Instead, the gate released corrupted divine energy that twisted everything it touched.

Boss Lore (Chronological)

1. Fire Elemental: Once the Cathedral's eternal flame, now a raging inferno that spreads corruption through Act 1.

2. Archon of Storms: Guardian of the sky temples. Driven mad by the Shattering, now attacks everything that enters its domain.

3. Varek the Betrayer: A former Seeker who went mad from divine corruption. His betrayal shattered the remaining Seeker order.

4. Forgotten King: The last king of Aethelgard. Refused to abandon his kingdom during the Shattering; now rules over ruins as an undead monarch.

5. Corrupted Priest: The High Priest who caused the Shattering. His guilt and corruption merged, creating one of the most tragic bosses in the game.

6. Divine Engine Omega: The corrupted heart of the Cathedral itself. A machine built to channel divine energy, now channeling only destruction.

7. The Archangel (Secret): A true divine being, untouched by corruption. It tests Seekers who prove themselves worthy by breaking all 5 hidden seals.

8. True Divine Engine (NG+): The Cathedral's true form — repaired and supercharged. This is the Cathedral at full power, uncorrupted but hostile.

The Endings

Normal Ending: You destroy Divine Engine Omega, stopping the corruption but also destroying the Cathedral. Aethelgard is saved but will never know divine power again. Bittersweet.

True Ending (NG+ Hard): You defeat True Divine Engine and the Archangel, proving yourself worthy. The Cathedral is purified rather than destroyed. Divine power returns to Aethelgard. The final cutscene shows crops growing, people rebuilding, and light returning to the sky.

Hidden Lore Details

  • The 5 hidden seals spell out "A-E-T-H-E-L" when arranged by location — the old name for Aethelgard.

  • Varek's boss arena contains his journal, which reveals he knew the Priest would cause the Shattering but couldn't stop him in time.
  • The Forgotten King's crown can be found as a secret item. Equipping it causes the King to acknowledge you in a unique dialogue line before Phase 2.
  • Divine Engine Omega's attack patterns are musical — the bullet hell phase syncs to the boss music at 140 BPM. Dodging to the beat is genuinely effective.
