Story Overview

Arms of God guide screenshot — story & lore guide

Arms of God's story is told through environmental storytelling, boss monologues, and collectible lore tablets. The central conflict: The Divine Engines — ancient mechanical gods — have gone rogue. You play as a Reclaimer, tasked with either repairing or destroying them.

Act 1: The Awakening

You wake in a ruined temple with no memory. A mysterious voice (later revealed as the Archon) guides you through the Foothills. The first Divine Engine you encounter is dormant — its caretaker, a corrupted priest, attacks you for "defiling sacred ground."

Key Lore Tablet: "The First Collapse" — describes how the Divine Engines suddenly turned on their creators 100 years ago.

Act 2: The Betrayal Revealed

You learn that Varek, once the greatest Reclaimer, tried to seize control of the Divine Engines for himself. His failure caused the Engines to go rogue. The Garrison Commander was his second-in-command — she gives you critical backstory before sacrificing herself to hold off Varek's forces.

Key Lore Tablet: "Varek's Confession" — Varek's own journal describing his descent from hero to villain.

Act 3: The Archon's Truth

The Archon (the voice guiding you) is itself a Divine Engine — the last loyal one. It has been secretly helping Reclaimers for decades. Varek knows this and exposes it during the boss fight, causing your character to question everything.

Key Lore Tablet: "The Divine Accord" — the original treaty between humans and Divine Engines.

Act 4: Omega's Fall

Divine Engine Omega is the most powerful Engine, corrupted by Varek's tampering. Defeating it doesn't end the threat — it reveals that Varek was merely a pawn. A greater corruption lurks beyond current content, teased for future updates.

Ending: You have a choice — repair Omega and restore the Divine Accord (peace ending) or destroy it and end the Engine age (freedom ending). Both endings lock you into different NG+ content.

Character Backstories

Varek the Betrayer: Once a hero who tried to save the Engines from a mysterious plague. His methods became extreme. He's a tragic villain.

The Archon: An ancient Engine that survived the Collapse by going into hiding. It has guided every successful Reclaimer for 50 years.

Commander Elara: The Garrison Commander who opposes Varek. Her family was killed by rogue Engines. She's the moral compass of the story.

Future Content Hints

The post-credits scene shows a massive Divine Engine emerging from the ocean, suggesting Act 5-6 future content. Lore tablets hint at 7 Divine Engines total — we've only seen Omega and the Archon.
