Why Play Assassin?

Arms of God guide screenshot — Assassin gameplay

The Assassin is the highest single-target DPS character in Arms of God — period. Her passive grants +25% critical hit chance from the first upgrade, and her crit multiplier scales to 3.5x with full passive tree investment. In the hands of a skilled player, she deletes Act 4 bosses in under 90 seconds.

Where she excels: Boss killing, speedrunning, single-target burst. The Assassin's damage ceiling is roughly 40% higher than the next-best DPS character when optimally built.

Where she struggles: Crowd control. With the lowest HP pool in the game (base 650 vs Paladin's 1,200) and no innate AOE, trash rooms with 10+ enemies are dangerous. You must play carefully between boss arenas.

Passive Tree Priority

Assassin's passive tree has 12 nodes. Spend points in this exact order:

1. Lethal Precision (Level 2): +25% crit chance. This is non-negotiable. With base 5% crit + 25% from Lethal Precision + gear bonuses, you reach roughly 45-50% crit in Act 2. Doubles your effective DPS immediately.

2. Shadow Strike (Level 4): Critical hits apply a bleed dealing 15% weapon damage per second for 4 seconds. This bleed stacks up to 5 times. At 5 stacks with a 200-damage weapon, that's 150 damage per second — before factoring in your normal attacks.

3. Exsanguinate (Level 6): +30% damage to bleeding enemies. Since Shadow Strike keeps everything bleeding permanently, this is a global 30% damage multiplier.

4. From the Shadows (Level 8): First attack from stealth deals 200% damage. Combine with Divine Form invisibility windows for a guaranteed 200% crit opener on every boss phase.

5. Killing Spree (Level 10): Killing an enemy increases attack speed by 15% for 5 seconds, stacking 3 times. Turns trash rooms from weaknesses into buff generators — enter boss fights with +45% attack speed.

6-12: Prioritize crit damage nodes (Merciless, Ruthlessness) over raw attack power. Assassin gets more value per point from crit scaling than any other character.

Best Weapon Merges for Assassin

S-Tier: Void Reaper (Base) + Shadow Fang (Sacrifice)

Dual daggers with +40% attack speed and bleed stacks doing 25% weapon damage per tick. Assassin's innate bleed synergy means this merge procs Shadow Strike on every third hit. Against stationary bosses, you maintain 5 bleed stacks permanently, dealing roughly 125% weapon damage per second from bleeds alone.

Why it works on Assassin: The attack speed multiplier from dual daggers (base 1.8 attacks/sec) combined with Assassin's crit fishing means you're rolling for 50% crits almost twice per second. Bleed application rate is unmatched by any other character-weapon combo.

A-Tier: Stormcaller's Bow (Base) + Phoenix Wing (Sacrifice)

Ranged option for dangerous boss phases. Charged shots deal 350% damage and pierce enemies. The revive-on-death from Phoenix Wing gives Assassin a safety net her low HP desperately needs. One charged crit at max distance with From the Shadows active hits for roughly 2,500 damage in Act 4.

A-Tier: Godslayer's Blade (Base) + Frostbite Blade (Sacrifice)

Sword that slows enemies by 30% on hit and deals +40% damage to slowed targets. The slow effect functions as a defensive layer — slowed enemies can't swarm the Assassin — while the damage bonus applies to both normal hits and bleed ticks. Synergizes perfectly with From the Shadows opener.

Optimal Blessing Priority for Assassin

| Priority | Blessing | Why |

|------|------|------|

| 1 | Executioner | +50% damage to enemies below 30% HP. With Assassin's burst, bosses spend roughly 40% of the fight below 30%. |

| 2 | Shadow Dance | 1.5 seconds of invincibility after a kill. Turns dense trash rooms from dangerous to risk-free. |

| 3 | Vampiric Edge | 2% lifesteal on crit. With 50% crit rate and 1.8 attacks/sec, this is roughly 2% max HP healed per second in combat. |

| 4 | Blessing of Haste | +20% movement speed. Assassin's primary defense is positioning — faster movement means fewer hits taken. |

| 5 | Coup de Grace | Instantly kill enemies below 10% HP. Lets Assassin chain through trash rooms without slowing down. |

Avoid: Guardian Angel (Assassin's low HP pool makes the 30% revive threshold dangerously low), Iron Skin (you shouldn't be taking hits), Frost Armor (shield wasted on a character who shouldn't be getting hit).

Divine Form: Phantom Requiem

Phantom Requiem is Assassin's ultimate ability. When activated:

  • 4 seconds of invisibility — enemies completely lose aggro

  • Next attack from invisibility deals 300% damage (stacks with From the Shadows for 500% total on the first hit)
  • 25-second cooldown — the shortest Divine Form cooldown in the game

Advanced technique — Double Phantom: Activate Phantom Requiem, land the 500% opener, then use the remaining invisibility to reposition behind the boss. The boss will turn to face your last known position, giving you 1-2 seconds of free back attacks (which have a hidden +10% crit chance).

When to pop it:

  • Boss phase transitions (Divine Engine Omega's phase 2 lightning storm is 4 seconds of guaranteed invisibility uptime)
  • When surrounded by 5+ trash enemies (invis drops aggro and you can pick them off one by one)
  • When you need to revive a co-op teammate

Playstyle Tips

The Assassin Rule: If you're trading hits, you're losing. Every point of HP matters when you only have 650 to work with. Use movement speed to strafe, Phantom Requiem to reset aggro, and kill enemies before they can attack.

Stack management: Your bleed stacks are everything. After 3 seconds without applying a bleed, all stacks fall off. Never stop attacking for more than 2 seconds — even backing off to dodge, throw a quick ranged attack to refresh stacks.

Boss positioning: Stay at the boss's back at all times. Boss turn speed is slower than Assassin movement speed with Blessing of Haste. You can literally circle-strafe most bosses while maintaining full DPS uptime.

Co-op role: Assassin is the designated boss killer. While the Paladin or Devastator tanks, you sit behind the boss and unleash your full rotation. Coordinate Phantom Requiem activations with the tank's Divine Form for maximum boss uptime.

Act-by-Act Strategy

Act 1: Rush Lethal Precision and Shadow Strike. Your first weapon merge should be daggers — even a non-optimized dagger merge benefits from Assassin's attack speed and crit. Skip tank blessings; commit fully to the glass cannon.

Act 2: By now you should have one A-tier or better weapon merge. Void Reaper + Shadow Fang is ideal, but any dagger or bow merge works. Start pathing toward Exsanguinate on the passive tree.

Act 3: Full build should be online — optimized weapon merge, 3+ relevant blessings, and Exsanguinate unlocked. The Archon of Storms fight is Assassin's hardest: the AOE lightning phases force you to disengage from melee range. Bring a ranged secondary or use Phantom Requiem to close gaps.

Act 4: With a full build, Assassin clears Divine Engine Omega faster than any other character. The key is Phantom Requiem timing — pop it during phase 2 lightning storm and phase 3 bullet hell, land 500% openers at the start of each phase, and maintain 5 bleed stacks the entire fight. Target time: under 90 seconds.
